Digipak Design Mock Up
This is my mock up of the digipak for Hoodie Allen's song "Let It All Work Out". I included pictures from Hoodie's last song "All About It" in this design because the ridiculous costumes give the digipak a sense of humour that would otherwise be lost.

Shots and Camera Angles Mood Board

Target Audience Research
The target audience for my artist typically consists of teenagers and young adults between the ages of 14 and 25. The target audience will most likely enjoy the artists music because it is catchy, upbeat and contains mature lyrics that suggest parties and adult activities. I will use outfits that would typically be worn by this age group and props that also suit this audience.

Hoodie Allen - Let It All Work Out - Lyrics
[Intro]
Your heart pounds with precision, a king dies inside his courts
Your heart pounds with precision, a king dies inside these doors
Let it all work out (x 4)
[Verse 1: Hoodie Allen]
She ask me when you coming to my college
Cause she's all about it
I said that's 40,000
Dollars she ain't got em
She begs her parents constantly
She got A's in all her classes but I know she wants the D
Look at your kid do the math
Running over the game while you're taking a nap
Vehicle manslaughter when they gimme the rap
Probably need a miracle to mirror you back
Make fans, move units, Tim Taylor, that's home improvement
Cameras follow me everywhere but don’t call me truman
Resume is like a Rubik's Cube cause it's hard to use and I'm hardly using my brain
Fans screamin my name dog well that feelings always insane
The band wagon bout to leave the station, so hop it on to that train
Always motivated by love
Never motivated by fame
Blink once, it's like "what's my age", they stressin off of my accolades
People tellin me I'm doin great, but honestly I just can’t relate
And I'm going through some shit that got me stressin out
But like my homies told me
[Chorus: Sampha]
Let it all work out (x8)
[Verse 2: Hoodie Allen]
Let me..
Be the guy that I'm suppose to
The person I envisioned
The boy who be all like I told ya
My dream keeps gettin bigger and every year I get older’
Somehow got my diploma
And now I own it like Oprah
Sorry I ain’t fo shit, the minute
With all these bridges, sometimes I get tunnel vision
I’m thinking how I’m bout to cross some long division
Only 5’9 but in the center on position
But I been in the game and I came to ball
Sent one tweet like "I came to the mall"
Hundred motherfuckers gonna show right up
Tried that shit in Oklahoma City it was loud as fuck
Mothers dropped they daughters off
Now they got me runnin' like we never shut the water off
Homie take this quarter off
I throw your ass some Gatorade
Always been a free agent but know my team they came to play
It could be one against a hundred
I promise they'll never stress me out
Cause like my homies told me
[Chorus]
[Outro]
Ya know they say like
99% of the things we worry about everyday don't even happen
So I'm gonna spend all that extra time
Fuckin' yo bitch
Woop
And when I'm done
We both can go to Applebee's
I tell her "You can get whatever you want"
She want that appetizer sampler
You can't get that sampler but I got it
I got em like that
Bitch have all of the buffalo wings you want
Your heart pounds with precision, a king dies inside his courts

Costume Mood Board

I have chosen one costume for each of my actors. For my fist actor I have chosen a denim jacket, a black hoodie, a grey tshirt and black skinny jeans with black trainers. This outfit is typical of young people in this area and fits in with the artists style of clothing so will therefore be relevant for my video. The same applies for my second costume which consists of a green/beige jacket, a white tshirt and denim jeans with grey trainers. This outfit is also worn by my artist and fits in with his style so will be succesful in my video.Permission Letter To Artist
I was unable to find an official address or email address for the artist Hoodie Allen and due to him being an independent artist, I was forced to contact him via social media.
Research Task 11 - Directors/Inspiration
My main inspirations for music videos are Jackson Adams, Jordan Bahat and Charles Whitcher. These three directors are all responsible for interesting and unique videos for song by artists such as Hoodie Allen, Ed Sheeran, Twenty One Pilots and Watsky. Their work is all very similar with interesting locations and a glimpse at a different lifestyle. These videos display a range of colourful costumes and exotic locations that really entrap the audience and create a good viewing experience that follows along with the music.
Research Task 10 - Record Company
XL Recordings is a British independent record label owned by Richard Russell. It originated as a 1989 offshoot of Beggars Banquet Records and is part of the Beggars Group of labels.XL is based in London and New York.
XL Recordings have signed artists such as Vampire Weekend, The XX, Tyler The Creator and Radiohead. These artists have all been majorly succesful in their respective genre.

Research Post 9 - Digipak Analysis 3
This digipak is for the XX's album "Coexist". I really like this digipak as it is very clear and bold and therefore stands out well.
Font/Text:
There is a minimal amount of text used on this digipak, limited to the song list. The text used is bold, black and entirely in uppercase and therefore stands out from the solid white background of the back cover of the digipak.
Images:
The only images on this digpak are three large X's on the front cover, inside cover and CD. These bold and colourful letters stand out on the white background and add to the minimalist style of the digipak.
Research Post 9 - Digipak Analysis 2
This is the digipak for the Gorillaz album "Demon Days". I like the simplistic style of this digipak.
Font/Text:
The only font visible on this digipak is the album title and band name on the CD. The font used is bold and white and entirely in capitals, this style coupled with the black background of the CD make the title and name very clear and give the CD a minimalist style.
Images:
The images used on this digipak are close up portrait sketches of the 'band members' which are made up characters that are the face of the band. The colourful sketches stand out vibrantly against the solid white background of each section of the digipak and give the digipak a unique minimalist look.
Research Task 9 - Digipak Analysis 1
For my first digipak analysis I chose the album "Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not" by the Arctic Monkeys. I chose this album because it is in the indie rock genre which is the same genre I intend to use for my own video.
Font/Text:
The text used in this digipak is very small and the song names are unnumbered which is very strange for an album. However because the text is white on a black background, it still stands out and the song names are very clear and gritty which is suitable for the style of music. Also, the song names and band name are all in lower case which is very different to most other albums, this supports the idea of the band being indie and unique.
Image:
The images used on this digipak are very similar with the front cover showing a close up of a man smoking and facing the camera directly and the back cover showing a close up of the same man still holding a cigarette but looking down away from the camera and covering his face. The use of portraits add a simplistic effect to this digipak. Also, the use of the black and white effect support the simplistic style.

Research Task 7 - Music Video Analysis 3
For my third analysis I chose the video for The Neighbourhood's song "Sweater Weather". I chose this video because it includes a lot of interesting shots and unique angles that are uncommon in most music videos.

- The use of natural lighting is obvious within the video even through the black and white effect. This lighting is effective because it creates a sense of realism.
- The locations in this video are all every day locations such as an apartment, a residential street and a motorway. These locations support the idea of it being a realistic video.
- A lot of mid shots of the group are used in the video showing them doing a range of activities. There also a lot of two shots of a male and female, obviously a couple, spending time together in an apartment.
- The use of lip syncing is subtle and only occurs once throughout the video. This shows that the video is not focused solely on the artists.
- I like the use of upside down shots which create a strange and unique effect that is not often used in music videos.
Research Task 7 - Music Video Analysis 2
For my second analysis, I have chosen the video for Hozier's song "Take Me To Church". I chose this video because the entire thing is black and white which is a unique take on modern music videos.

- A black and white effect is used throughout the entire video, this gives the video a very deep and emotional feeling and shows the viewer the seriousness of what is happening in the video.
- The locations used in this video are all every day locations and therefore add to the realistic feel of the video.
- The shots in this video are all a similar length, not lasting more than a few seconds. There are a variety of different types of shots used in the video including close ups, long shots and two shots.
- There is no lip syncing within the video as it is a story line based video and not focused on an artist or group.
- The outfits used by the group of men who attack the couple are all dark, hooded coats and masks to cover the majority of their faces. These outfits suggest the sinister intentions of the men before they happen.
Research Task 7 - Music Video Analysis 1
For my first analysis, I have chosen the music video for Hoodie Allen's song "All About It". I chose this video because I like the style of it and want to achieve something similar when making my own.

- I like the use of natural lighting throughout the video which gives it a gritty, realistic feeling and doesn't try to potray anything glamorous or unreal.
- The locations in this video are very normal as they don't show any kind of lifestyle and are every day locations and therefore a natural place to film this video.
- The shots in this video vary in length, the majority are close-ups and mid shots of the artists, however there are still a range of different shots used including multiple two shots, long shots and extreme close ups.
- Both artists lip-sync continuously throughout the video in different shots and it flows through the duration of the video.
- I like how the video is solely focused around the two artists and the activities they are doing, this shows that the video and lyrics of the song are based on them.
- The costumes used in the video are humorous and give the video a light hearted feeling in contrast with the lighting and locations. I find the use of superhero and spaceman costumes interesting and it is a unique idea that I would be interested in using myself.
- Slow motion shots are used a few times during the video and add an interesting twist to the storyline.

Task 6 - Magazine Advert 3
This magazine advert displays a new album produced by The Gorillaz. The album is titled 'Plastic Beach'. The cover art for the new album is similar to The Gorillaz style and will therefore attract their fans and new consumers.
- The font used in this advert is wavy and different sizes to reflect the idea of water.
- The colour scheme for this advert is dark at the bottom but begins to brighten towards the top. The oranges and yellows suggest it is in the evening and the warm colours suggest that the music will be steady and slow.
